| Hundreds attend RISE! Campaign demo in Cashel, county Tipperary22nd May 2010 Local organisers say that up to five hundred supporters of the RISE! Rural Ireland Says Enough! Campaign have taken part in a demo in Cashel, county Tipperary, in defence of traditional rural sports like hunting, coursing and shooting. The demo was planned to coincide with a Fianna Fáil regional conference taking place in the town. The demo assembled in the Main Street, from 10 a.m. onwards, and shortly after 11 a.m. marched to the Brú Ború Centre where the Fianna Fáil conference was taking place. Members and supporters of mounted and foot hunts, coursing clubs and gun clubs, mainly from across county Tipperary and neighbouring counties, took part. A spokesman for RISE! told the national and local media: ‘The demo was calling on the Minister for the Environment, John Gormley, to step back from his plans and to consult with the people directly affected by his proposals. We are warning Fianna Fáil that they need to wake up to what's going on in their own Government’. |
